About the Host Club

The RDRC is excited and proud to have been selected by the National Retriever Club of Canada to host the 2012 National Amateur Retriever Championship Stake to be held from July 16-21, 2012, near Red Deer, Alberta.
The Red Deer Retriever Club was incorporated in 1979 and has run field trials every year since. Sometimes two trials per year are run. (Spring and Fall). All of the trials have been run on property owned by the Olson family east of Red Deer. There have been 4 previous nationals held in this area.
Our Club started out with a small number of members ( about 7) and have pretty well stayed with that core number ever since. We have the same executive that we started with except for a few changes over the years. , In order to put on an event of this size all Clubs in Alberta and some from BC are assisting in key positions. The Red Deer Retriever Club is very appreciative of all of the non members who have volunteered their time an effort to allow us to host these prestigious events. We are confident you will enjoy your visit to this part of the country.
The Red Deer Retriever club would like to extend a welcome to all prospective competitors and spectators to this premiere event, which will be held on some of the finest natural grounds in North America. These grounds are all privately owned, by one very generous family. They consist of rolling hills of rotated pasture land with native prairie grasses, bushes and stands of trees and have abundant natural ponds on all parts of the property.
Wear your best cowboy hats, jeans and boots as the Calgary Stampede is celebrating its 100th anniversary, so the greatest outdoor show on earth is going all out in 2012, if you've never been then this is the year to come and enjoy the western hospitality like you've never seen. The Stampede runs from July 6th to 15th.
Red Deer weather is usually very temperate this time of year. Average daily temperatures for July are mid 20's, with lower double digits at night 14 to 17 degrees, we enjoy the cooler nights. It is always good to pack clothing for all temperatures; the rain when it happens is not warm.

The pre-trial and Trial headquarters will be in the campgrounds at the "Crossroads Ag Park" See map for location.
