General Information

The 2010 National will be held in and around Merritt which is in the Nicola Valley in the interior of British Columbia .Merritt is home to the annual summer Merritt Music Festival and is used accommodating large groups of people. Visitors can easily access Merritt by air and highway, through Vancouver (3 hr drive), Kamloops (45min drive) or Kelowna (1 hr drive).There is a wide variety of hotels, motels and campgrounds which can be viewed online at www.bcadventure.com/merritt. Most are within 10 km of the trial grounds and headquarters. There are many activities in the area which is known for its scenery, fishing and history. The Okanagan Valley with its world renown wineries is close by.

Headquarters will be at the Civic Centre in downtown Merritt , close to all accommodations and within 15 km of all the trial grounds. This will also be the venue of the Saturday night banquet, and hospitality room.

Note: Cash or Visa/Mastercard will be accpted at the National. There will be a 5% surcharge added for the use of a credit card.

Grounds

The water and land will be within 15km of downtown, in the Kane Valley, on a combination of public and private properties which have never been used for trials before. The lands are primarily rolling grasslands and the water tests will be in ponds and lakes built several years ago by Ducks Unlimited. Pre trial training can be done in either Logan Lake (site of previous Nationals ) 45 minutes north of Merritt or in the Merritt area itself.

Weather

The climate in the Nicola Valley is moderate in late summer. The avg daily temp in Merritt in Sep is 14C with a range of 6C to 22C .Precipitation is usually quite low.

Meals

There will be a lunch wagon at the daily test sites. There is also a wide variety of restaurants, both sit-down and take-out available in Merritt.

Vet

Liz Ladyman of Ladyman & Assoc. will be vetting the bitches for the trial. Her clinic is also available for emergency service and is located at 1802 Charters St. in Merritt, Phone 250-378-6136.

Trial Functions

The Civic Centre (location 7 on your map) will be the trial headquarters. The banquet, West Coast dinner, Hospitality Room, Callbacks Board, Silent Auction, Meetings and Vetting will all take place there.

The Worker's Party will be held at the Moonshadows RV Park & Campground.

Things to do

A Merritt and area leisure guide will be available at headquarters. There is lots to do and see in the Nicola Valley.
